Atalaya New Course

The New Course Opened in 1990, this Paul Krings designed course presents an intriguing test of golf. Paul Krings has been responsible for the design of a number of European golf courses, including the prestigious GC Schloss Maxlrain in southern Germany. Set in the hills above the Atalaya Old Course, the New Course rewards accuracy off the tee, rather than out and out length. A number of the fairways and greens feature slopes and elevation changes, requiring careful shot selection. The course provides wonderful panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, the Mediterranean and Gibraltar and thanks to its location away from busy roads provides a tranquil setting in which to enjoy your round of golf. Wildlife abounds throughout the course, including the lake on the picturesque 4th hole and there is a natural wood in the centre of the course, featuring cork oaks, olive and carob trees. Although there a few climbs, the course is perfectly walkable, however in the heat of the summer players are best advised to hire a buggy. The New Course is included in our multi-year investment strategy designed to continually maintain and improve its presentation and playability throughout our 12-month golfing season. The first tee is a short distance from Atalaya´s Golf Academy providing convenient practice facilities to warm up before the game. Make sure to stop for a coffee and a snack at the Old Course café as you make your way to the New Course, where you will also find a number of water fountains to provide refreshment during your round. Atalaya Old Course

First opened in 1968, Atalaya´s Old Course is one of the finest courses on the Costa del Sol. The wide generous fairways undulate gently between mature trees and flowering shrubs providing shade and all year color. The frequently elevated greens can make club selection interesting and their subtle contours need careful judgement to sink those all-important putts. Ideal for walking, the Old course offers magnificent views of La Concha and the Mediterranean, as well as lakes and streams populated by many species of water birds, including our two resident pairs of swans. The Old Course was designed by Bernard von Limburger, one of Germany´s foremost golf course architects, responsible for 74 European courses. Building on this heritage, we manage a multi-year investment strategy to maintain and improve the presentation and playability of the Old Course. Each year Atalaya hosts a number of professional tournaments, whilst always offering a fair test of golf for players of all levels. A well-stocked café welcomes you at the beginning of your round, complemented by an adjacent comprehensive short game practice area, whilst the Atalaya Golf Academy, located alongside the 13th hole, offers a complete range of practice facilities.

Om Atalaya Golf & Country Club

Opened in 1968 the Bernard von Limburger designed Old Course makes Atalaya one of the oldest and most prestigious clubs on the coast. Von Limburger was responsible for 74 courses throughout Europe, although Atalaya is his only Spanish course. The New Course was added in 1990, to a Paul Krings design. Unlike so many clubs in the area, Atalaya was established first and foremost as a golf club, as opposed to a real estate development. This heritage allows members and visitors alike to enjoy golf in natural surroundings, largely uncluttered by housing developments. From the outset, Atalaya was conceived as an open golfing destination, where members and visitors alike would find a friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Indeed a unique feature of the club is its diverse membership where no less than 36 nationalities can be found enjoying their golf in the Spanish sunshine. This diversity naturally attracts visitors from across Europe and further afield.
